Everflow Part 1: Frames Of Humanity

Reigning Phoenix Music

Setting out as a band must be tough when you may have an eclectic taste in music. How does one combine all those influences to one coherent whole? If you would like a prime example of a band still doing this into their fourth decade, look no further than Athena XIX and their latest opus, ‘Everflow Part 1: Frames Of Humanity’. In many ways with ‘Everflow…’, you can see the Rhapsody Of Fire connection courtesy of frontman Fabio Lione’s grandiose delivery. Opener “Frames Of Humanity” raises the curtain in frenetic style before dropping down to a piano-backed croon, whilst “The Seed” showcases the band’s aggressive side with dissonant natural harmonic-inspired riffage. Those wanting a slight more rock-orient will not be disappointed by the half-time groove of “The Calm Before The Storm”, yet it is the madcap “Synchrolife” where Athena XIX shine brightest. Thrash, prog, electronic and piano-influenced jazz combine for a prog aficionado’s dream four-minutes. At nearly an hour in length across thirteen meticulous tracks, you certainly get your money’s-worth from ‘Everflow…’ Athena XIX spoils us with the prospect of the second part in future. Bring it on.
