Zebrahead
I
MFZB Records
Lord almighty, Zebrahead should consider changing their name to Sharkhead or Tyrannosaurus Rexhead, because ‘I’ is flippin’ savage. Sure, rub a zebra up the wrong way and they’re probably gonna bite. But this EP is so pacey, punchy and powerful it could strip flesh from bones carnivorous dinosaur style. Cleverly titled opening track ‘I Have Mixed Drinks About Feelings’ is a tailspin of punk rock prowess with anthemic lyrics, guitars that scream like sirens, and vocals that do the same. ‘Pulling Teeth’ is a glorious riot of choppy riffs and thunderous beats. The vocals on ‘Doomsday On The Radio’ are so rapid fire they sound panic-stricken. This band don’t even have time to draw breath. ‘I’ is an EP of punk fury, slick melodies and ‘we take care of our own herd’ vibes. It’s an awesome release from one of the scene’s best known names, who continue to charge forward while keeping a close eye on their roots – and who have definitely earned their stripes.
