Blossoms
Gary – Self Released
Timing is they say, everything. So with a certain other Manchester band stopping their fisticuffs long enough to at least announce a reunion tour we need to focus on the latest outing by indie quintet Blossoms. There’s a maturing of writing right through ‘Gary’. It purrs along like a Rolls Royce. With the five band members all fully immersed the sound is as deep as you’d expect but it’s never messy. It’s all pretty slick with crisp finely tuned production. Tom Ogden’s laid back vocals are chill personified. It is Charlie Salt’s funky bass though that give’s this record much of its identity. His playing is just sublime. This is a solid work all round with consistency at its heart. The fact that the latest Blossoms record shares its name with the person reviewing it here has in no way influenced the review, honest!
