Molly Vulpyne
Amortise EP – FOAD Musick/ADVANCEUK
Vulpynes are well known in the punk world as a no nonsense duo that are quite loud in their approach. So when Molly Vulpyne puts out an EP it’ll be an extension of that shoutyness won’t it? Well no, and yes, but mainly no. The EP features four tracks that are raw and edgy but also full of melody and soul too. The guitar work is loaded with distortion while also somehow a little calmer than you might expect. And the vocals, well they are straight from the heart. You still get that rasping fry but it’s measured and cleaner. Anyone that’s seen Molly perform as an acoustic act (even though this is not an acoustic EP) will know the voice on ‘Amortise’. It’s poignant and has that lovely lilt only singers from Ireland have. Here it’s also strong and confident but at the same time the lyrics are direct, frank and open showing a vulnerability that listeners might recognise in themselves. In four songs we see a very different side to Molly Vulpyne and it’s one many will want to hear more of.
