Review: Earthtone9 – In Resonance Nexus

Earthtone9

In Resonance Nexus

Candlelight

Can I start by echoing the voices up and down the country in saying, thank God Earthtone9 are back! Kicking off with the anthemic, catchy but no less heavy, ‘The Polyphony Of Animals’ is a quintessentially British sound with all of the cerebral intelligence we’ve come to expect from this jewel in the crown of UK metal. Their trademark dissonance contrasting Karl Middleton’s croon into a feral call to arms continues on the second part of the opening one-two hit with ‘Navison Record’, and from there on, it’s like slipping into your favourite boots that have moulded to you in time. It’s comfortable, reassuring, and very reliable. That’s not to say it’s safe! It’s as angular and muscular as any Earthtone9 release. In a time of many homogeneous sounds like metal acts, it’s wonderful to hear Earthtone9 back and firing on all cylinders again. The band remain one in a league of one!
