Lesbian Bed Death
Midnight Lust – Self Released
Ever since likes of Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride burst out of West Yorkshire, the UK has (quite rightly) been seen as the birthplace of gothic metal. Yet, the original movement has become dwarfed by regional scenes on the Continent and in America that have taken gothic’s dark delights to a global audience. However, with Lesbian Bed Death on the scene the UK is once again positioning itself as the primary propagator of all things goth and are injecting some much needed vitality into a genre that was in danger of becoming staid. With new vocalist JJ at the helm, Lesbian Bed Death are a band reborn and opening track ‘Maria’ comes out swinging as such. It’s a confident introduction and one that sets the tone for all the (lucky) 13 tracks. Cinematic and atmospheric, Midnight Lust is an album that throws elements of punk and industrial into its cauldron and, amongst the raucous riffs and gnarly solos, creates a multifaceted listen that shines its (black) light in all directions. The result is a crossover album in its truest definition that’ll appeal to anyone whose tastes veer towards the dark side. Expect Lesbian Bed Death to haunt a turntable near you very soon.
