Below The Summit (EP) – Exitus Statagem Records

Proving that metal is a truly global movement, Sinnery come blazing out of Israel with their latest EP, Below The Summit. Formed in 2012, these thrashers laid dormant for a while before returning with their sophomore album last year. Sinnery prove themselves a force to be reckoned with, and the five tracks contained here offer no quarter; there are no feints thrown, only opening shot ‘Somber’ arriving with the force of an irradiated warhead. Theirs is a ferocious brand of thrash that attacks like sharks in a feeding frenzy as the water bubbles, turning blood red. Vocals flit between the gruff and gruffer, the guitars are razor sharp and deliver angular riffs and spiky solos, while the rhythm section pounds with mechanical precision, and it all adds up to a hefty, though not unpleasant, listen. Comparisons have been drawn with Trivium and Power Trip, but it’s to Sinnery’s credit that they sound like no one but themselves, they’ve developed a signature sound that melds death and thrash to great effect, and Below The Summit finds Sinnery rising majestically.
