Plaiins
Puppet EP – Self-released
Spikey punk punchers Plaiins are on it like a car bonnet from the first second of ‘Puppet EP’. Fuzzy
guitars and full-on vocals flow throughout, backed by a rattilng rhythm section. The record has a
raw, fast-paced feel; like it was recorded in someone’s garage – and in the half hour before the car
was put away for the night. ‘Wooha! (Speak Easyyy)’ has a Dinosaur Pile-Up vibe, which is obviously
to its credit. Title track ‘Puppet’ runs with the catchiness of the EP’s tunes that tread before it and
actually doubles down on their get-stuck-in-yer-head-all-day traits. The chorus is so good the whole
track deserves a rewind. ‘Chelsea Smile’ bounds along like an excitable puppy, and will put a wiggle
in your walk. ‘Polidicks’ (gerrit? Tee hee) is, as you can imagine, not subtle. ‘Puppets’ is an excellent,
edgy EP.
