Theoretically Speaking: The Acoustic Sessions Vol 1 – Self-Released

Sure, we like it loud and heavy here at Devo, but it does no harm to take it down a level or two now and then. And while it takes a good dose of hellfire in the belly to get the death growls freewheeling, it takes guts to strip it all back and release an acoustic EP. Firstly, Silent Theory have to be applauded for delivering six tracks with not an electrical socket in sight. Secondly, the grace with which they do so is mesmerising. ‘Theoretically Speaking’ is raw and intense. When was the last time you heard every single lyric on a record – and felt it too? There are no misheard lines here. It’s an easy listen genre-wise and instrumentally, yet the fact that it’s so vocally focused makes ‘Theoretically Speaking’ feel like you’ve walked into Silent Theory’s most intimate conversations – and are welcomed in.
