Minipony
Ajna – Subsound Records
Metalheads rejoice! Death metal merchants celebrate! Tech death metal fans, erm, come into existence! Because Equador-based Minipony are here to open your eyes and expand your minds. As always, it’s quality not quantity, so Minipony may only be a band of three but are no less mighty. Ajna is their second album, and was recorded at Joe Duplantier’s (Gojira) Silver Cord Studio, New York, interestingly enough. What is also interesting is the noise they manage to make. The beats and guitars are heavy, as their genre suggests, but it’s Emilia’s vocals which are standout. Described as ‘insane’ they feature possibly every type of noise a human is capable of making. Across Ajna they range from sounding angry to emotive and everything in between, making the tracks totally appealing and intriguing. Minipony may not be mainstream, but to those that discover them they will become vital.
