Close to the Sun – Self Released

Hailing from Florida, four-piece Fortune Child have stamped their own take on an old-school rock style in this their debut album. ‘The Way’ introduces you to their slick guitar solos and thrashing drums, which in this track takes centre stage. In ‘Don’t Shoot Me’ vocalist Christian Powers begins to come into his own. Instrumentally it’s another win for the band, these guys have got it nailed. The first single ‘Far’ wouldn’t be out of place in a classic rock playlist, again impeccable instrumentals which evolve in pace throughout. Upcoming single ‘Slow Down’ is a melodic rock n’ roll hit waiting to happen. ‘Tie The Line’ is one of the songs that shows the strength of Powers’ vocals. ‘Feet Down Low’ is a classic example of punchy old-school rock that will have you nodding to the beat like it’s contagious. ‘Close To the Sun’ slaps hard with a jazzy element, another track that boasts some hearty guitar solos. The final instalment ‘Conscious’ feels more heartfelt than its predecessors and shows the rockers have many strings to their bow. It’s definitely a stand-out track on a fine record.
