The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest – InsideOut Music

This stunning release brings all the feelings. Of course, there was never any doubt that Anneke Van Giersbergen’s new solo album would be anything short of a work of art. But ‘The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest’ is above and beyond, well, everything. It is such a gorgeous album. Full of sweet acoustic melodies and relatable sentiments, which come from Anneke’s open heart. It is a brave and bold thing to bear, but makes the record simply beautiful. It may be something slightly different for the singer, who has tended to dwell more in heavier musical homelands, but this makes it all the more beguiling. ‘The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest’ begins with the earthy acoustic tones of ‘Agape’, over which Anneke’s delicate songbird voice sings. ‘Hurricane’ and ‘I Saw A Car’ have a foot-tapping stomp running through their core. ‘My Promise’ is honest and fragile. This album is a moving masterpiece – it will make your soul sing and your eyes misty and teary.
