The Boojums
The Boojums
Having Fun Records
Lo-fi, fuzzy Canadian three-piece The Boojums are clearly fans of clanging guitars, vocals that sound like they’re coming from a singer trapped in the cupboard under the stairs and strong tunes that get stuck in your head. And that’s a winning combination. Bone-rattling ‘The Boojums’ is an album of noisy, raw, fun and unassuming clattering tracks. If you found yourself balls deep in the DIY, art school, musical aesthetic of The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives and the rest of the gang way back when, ‘The Boojums’ is your lucky day. ‘Do Ya Like It’ turns things heavier and darker, ‘Meet Me In The Middle’ is a minute and a half of pure unpolished bouncy jabby guitared and scratchy vocal-ed joy. ‘Garden Of The Sons’ introduces itself like a kids’ tv show theme before dropping the album’s heaviest riffs to take the song post-watershed. The Boojums are the sound of guitar music past, present and future smashed together, and they’ve managed to make a record that sounds nostalgic yet fresh.
