Sonic Dissidence

Senser… yep, you read that right… Senser have been deployed. Firing up their first album in 12 years, their sound of dissatisfaction which first whacked us in the chops in the 1990s is back. And it’s fucking livid. Ultra-ballsy agitators ‘Ryot Pump’ and ‘Old World’ are Senser at their rowdy rap-metal best, with vocalist Heitham Al-Sayed relentlessly firing shaming staccato lyrics about the world at its worst. The pace slows but the hate doubles down in ‘Optimus’, with a grooving bassline and Kerstin Haigh’s crisp vox lighting the touchpaper to make the track explode. ‘Full Body Rebellion’ will put a kick in your step and a snarl on your face. Musically, ‘End of Days’ is a little more laid back, synthy and floaty – offering a little oxygen when the chokehold of the real-life lyrics becomes a too tight. The repetitive patterns and deadpan vocal delivery of ‘Already Dead’ are panic-inducing. Wouldn’t it be nice if the world was such a great place we needed wholesome artists of days gone by to make a comeback and provide the background music? Sadly we’re pretty much living the nightmare at the minute kids. But Senser feel it. They see it. And they see you. None of us are alone in this shit show. And ‘Sonic Dissidence’ is our soundtrack.
