Royalty Capes
Louder Than Joy
Self Released
Featuring ten tracks in a cool 22-minutes, Royalty Capes aren’t the kind of band who over egg the pudding. On the contrary, their latest album, Louder Than Joy, is the kind of record that removes all excess fat until all that is left is pure, unadulterated rock n’ roll. It is like alcohol that has been distilled into its purest form and as such is highly flammable. It’s an approach of which I thoroughly approve and means that opening track ‘I Get Loose’ hits with full force as soon as finger hits the play button. With only one song breaking the three-minute barrier, this is a kind of blink-and-you-miss-it affair, but don’t mistake brevity for lack of invention because cuts such as ‘White Lies’ are fit to burst with great ideas and concussion-inducing riffs. With three albums under their belt and three more planned (for this year alone!), Royalty Capes have an energy that is just as frenetic as their sound and makes Louder Than Joy a ball that crackles with static. By condensing all that’s good about classic rock into a potent brew, Royalty Capes are flying towards a bright future.
