Review: Edge Of Paradise – Prophesy

Edge Of Paradise

Prophecy

Napalm Records

With their huge sound, powerful vocalist and hooks that could floor Tyson Fury, Los Angeles crew Edge Of Paradise are far from serene. Their music demands equally weighty subject matter and latest album finds it in technological singularity (the point where AI becomes too clever for its own good). Prophecy offers a frightening vision of a not-to-distant future and serves up ten tracks which drip with dystopian dread. The star of the show is once again singer Margarita Monet who immediately makes her presence felt on opening track ‘Death Note’. There’s a wonderful plasticity to her voice that ranges from earth-shattering screams to soulful trill, but mostly it hits that sweet spot somewhere in between. However, the rest of the band aren’t about to be outdone and deliver a hard and melodic beat that makes a beeline to the memory bank. In tandem the two make an unstoppable force and the concept that threads the album together ensures it barrels along like a runaway locomotive. It means that we arrive at final track ‘Falling Light’ far too soon, but this is one ride you’re unlikely to forget and our crystal ball says Prophecy will take Edge Of Paradise to the top tier.
