Unit:187
KillCure
Metropolis Records
Founded in Vancouver, Canada, three decades ago, Unit:187 has a long and colourful history. After their original frontman and co-founder Tod Law sadly passed in 2015, they have returned ready to unleash some new music with former backing singer Kerry Vink-Peterson on lead vocals. They also feature vocals of the late Tod Law on various tracks. The band consists of co-founder Johnny Morgan and Chris Vink-Peterson as well as various guest performers. Known for their Electro-Industrial-Metal sound, Unit:187 have whipped together what they describe as a ‘dance floor friendly’ release while still packing a punch and brimming with attitude. ‘Glamhammer’ opens with samples of car sirens and thick and gritty guitars which become enveloped with dark distorted vocals and the trademark industrial drumming and synths. Their single release ‘Dick’ is a rerecording from their 1998 album ‘Loaded’. They have put a fresh spin on one of their classics which as expected sounds a lot more slick and modern. While not drifting too far from the original premise they have reimagined the track which no doubt will excite some long-term and new fans alike. The title track ‘KillCure’ evolves as you listen, adding more layers to the music in building a crescendo of darkness. We believe this is one of the tracks featuring both Law and Vink-Peterson, both vocals work seamlessly together and you would never know were recorded with such large amount of time in between. This album is very skillfully produced, no stone is left unturned. Every beat and note is carefully crafted. The time is now for Unit:187 to make their return.
