Review: Blood Incantation – Absolute Elsewhere

Blood Incantation

Absolute Elsewhere

Century Media

Where to begin with this record? After listening to it I felt myself feeling quite altered like I needed to have a sit down to process it. Imagine, if you will, that Yes in their 70’s heyday had embraced 90’s death metal, that is kind of close, kind of. There is no point pointing out individual tracks they don’t have snappy titles, just Stargate: Tablet 1-3 and The Message: Tablet 1-3 so basically you have to take this as a whole immersive journey and what a trip it is! The production is immaculate in its referencing, everything here is 100% authentic, the death metal parts sound like golden era Death and the vocals cut through the melee like a scalpel, the guitars are warm, fuzzy and pleasingly vintage, there’s nods to prog, dub and just straight-out space rock via Frank Zappa style unpredictability. It’s one of those records you just turn on, tune in and bug out to. If death metal took acid this is what it sounds like…I think. This is all a wonderful thing, and I will be recommending it to anyone who likes to explore the outer limits. It’s dizzying, ambitious, masterfully done and I feel I need another sit down as I gaze into the void and question human consciousness. Far out man, far out…wow
