Review: Undeath – More Insane

Undeath

More Insane

Prosthetic Records

Rochester NY wrecking crew Undeath are back and not a moment too soon! This band is infectious, in the way that they make you want to do things you might have to explain to your boss tomorrow. A full-on death march introduces this record before we’re straight into a proper chug a thon on Dead From Beyond, the first thing that’s striking is the cleaned-up production and the amount of groove here especially later in the album, it’s really tight and punchy. One thing that’s always been appealing about Undeath is their total devotion to the craft whilst remaining down to earth and thoroughly great fun, this is a bunch of guys you want to share a pizza with and talk shit. From the no frills aspect of their art aesthetic, it’s clear, here it is, bang your fucking head, you want gore and shit, there it is. One of the things that you shouldn’t miss is the musicianship involved, take the bass playing on title track More Insane for instance, literally insane. There is absolute savagery here of course, this will ignite circle pits the world over, it’s utterly sick, make no mistake, this album will actually hurt people. Disputatious Malignancy almost loses control of itself and reminds me of how awesome it sounds when the wheels sound in danger of falling off and that’s Undeath, utterly out of control and in danger of destroying the whole street. To quote the band themselves in a discussion we had on camera. “Amps wanna bark man!” The vocal performance is up there with the OSDM greats, the live feel of everything is what makes it so vital, and the guitar tone is exemplary considering by the band’s own admission, they just plug in and turn it the fuck up, well that works for me!… hang on, Detachment of a Prophalactic In The Brain…? What the hell? Undeath are different level.
