Review: Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead

Killed By Deaf

A Punk Tribute To Motörhead

BMG

If any band deserved to have a punk tribute album then it’s Motörhead  an act who united the genre’s fans with those of metal. It cannot be overstated how important Lemmy and the gang are to heavy music and the wider alternative community. Here we get some of their best known songs, and some unearthed gems reworked by a galaxy of big hitters. Pennywise’s version of ‘Ace Of Spades’ is sympathetic to its core. Fear’s interpretation of ‘The Chase Is Better Than The Catch’ simply rocks, while GBH cover ‘Bomber’ with immense enthusiasm. We finish with Motörhead and The Damned blasting out the latter’s ‘Neat Neat Neat’. The thing that comes across most here is the fact that all the acts that appear on this record are first and foremost fans of Motörhead. You can hear it in the effort put in to make their song the best it can be, not a copy, a tribute. Somehow you like to think up there wherever they are Lemmy, and yes Eddie, Phil and Würzel too will be looking down nodding in approval while sipping a heavenly Jack and Coke.
