Live Review: Suzi Sabotage & Moth Slut, The Waiting Room, London

A Night of Blood, Velvet, and Darkness: Moth Slut and Suzi Sabotage at The Waiting Room in London.

The venue was already alive before the first note rang out. Smoke seemingly curled through the low ceiling, red lights pooled across the walls, and the crowd, majority draped in black lace, leather, and eyeliner, pressed ever closer to the stage. The anticipation of the opening performance crackles like static in the air this evening, and then Moth Slut the Manchester duo appears. Their presence is small but entirely commanding. Armed with vocals and a wall of synth, bass, and distortion, they created a universe of tension and desire.

‘A Coffin Built for Two,’ the recent album offering was conjured to life here this evening, with each track rolling into a slow-burning ritual that weaves melancholy and slight menace into the collective heartbeat of the crowd. Between songs, they barely spoke, letting the atmosphere linger like a scent you couldn’t and didn’t want to shake. The room moved in complete unison with them, entirely hypnotised, and their bodies swaying as if in a trance.

Then came Suzi Sabotage, and the night’s energy shifted. Where Moth Slut seemed to have whispered from the shadows, Suzi vehemently demanded the room’s attention. Clad in black and glowing under the red light, she moved with an icy authority, her voice cutting sharp and mournful through the haze and it seemed like every song from this set was delivered like a magic spell, a mixed potion of heartbreak and power that had the audience caught in a rapture. Suzi spoke very little between tracks, but her presence alone held the crowd in thrall, every note ringing both dark and majestic.

By the final chords, the room was still, calm, and drenched in crimson light. A switch from the night’s intensity. Moth Slut had conjured the darkness, and Suzi Sabotage had ruled it. Together, they transformed The Waiting Room into a gothic cathedral, a temple for the beautifully damned, haunting everyone who had been there.
