Review: Adam And The Hellcats – 9 Lives

Adam And The Hellcats

9 Lives

Self Release

‘9 Lives’ is the aptly titled third album release by Bristol rockers Adam And The Hell Cats. Adam Feasey and Cirwen Costa are at the helm and are quite the dynamic duo as the bands lead vocalists. It bustles with energy and melody alongside the toe tapping use of instruments which include a keytar. Starting with a bang we have ‘Light Up’ which is an unadulterated party anthem from the lyrics to the instrumentals. ‘Made In Bristol’ has more of a heavier sound especially with the guitars clearly showing their more metal side while maintaining their larger than life extravagant edge. Costa’s voice really shows how multifaceted it is and it continues to really shine throughout the album. Just in time for spooky season ‘The Dead Are Walking’ speaks from the perspective of a survivor of a zombie apocalypse. We love how fun and imaginative it is and who doesn’t like zombies? ‘Go Easy’ is an interesting song as it feels kind of country to start, with heartfelt lyrics about a loved one who has passed and then later Feasey starts to rap. No one can say these guys aren’t versatile! There are also punk elements sprinkled throughout this release and we think the mix in genres is partly what makes this stand out. Adam And The Hellcats are authentic and unapologetic and have created something very unique using their talent plus a shed load of ingenuity.
