Die Spitz
Something To Consume
Third Man Records
‘Something To Consume’ is the exciting eleven track debut album of Austin, Texas quartet Die Spitz. Members are known to often swap instruments and three also offer up some very different vocal styles throughout. Weaving grunge, punk, metal, and alternative rock, the band creates a sound that is both familiar and innovative. This album offers a dreamy, ethereal, and at times blistering, yet consistently raw, interpretation of these genres, making every track unpredictable. ‘Pop Punk Anthem (Sorry For The Delay)’ begins with a mellow, unmistakable ’90s grunge feel before letting rip. The album then continues on a heavier and more energetic trajectory while continuing to dip in and out of that grungey haze. Every track stands out but we especially love ‘Throw Yourself To The Sword,’ ‘American Porn,’ and ‘Riding With My Girls,’ which oozes attitude. Lyrics include themes surrounding topics such as mental health, politics, feminism and identity. This impressive debut showcases each member’s talent, together creating a sound that hints at the future of alternative music. By drawing on contemporary influences, the band has forged a new sound and vibe.
