Review: Igorrr – Amen

Igorrr

Amen

Via Metal Blade Records

Every sound under the sun can be heard on ‘Amen’. Prove us wrong! French multi-instrumentalist, producer and Igorrr main man Gautier Serre’s fifth album is intricate, agonisingly precise, painstakingly put together and, at times, as mad as a box of frogs. With everything – EVERYTHING including trip hop, baroque, demonic possession (possibly), an exorcism (probably), operatic, orchestral, and the most harsh and anti-harmonic of genre-bending stuff you ever did hear, ‘Amen’ is extreme. Wanna play a game? Which one of the following noises is NOT on this record. A choir (recorded in a church), a piano played with an excavator, a nine-foot brass horn used in Buddhist ceremonies, a blacksmith’s anvil or an over-excited goat???????* Make your choice. Take your chances with this record too while you’re at it. Igorrr fans are in for a treat. The progression and purpose of this artist/band/beast is second to none. For those not so familiar with this master of melodic (and not so melodic) mayhem, ‘Amen’ is worth a listen to hear the extremes music can be taken to.

*there was no goat featured on ‘Amen’. Sadly.
