Asleep In The Ejector Seat
Punk Fox Records
With a proclamation of being “London’s loudest rock ‘n’ roll band”, the capital’s The Heat Inc. are certainly aiming high with confidence. Such statements carry an inherent risk, but mercifully, their boldness is ably supported by a fabulous debut album, ‘Asleep In The Ejector Seat’.
Suffice to say that their opening track, ‘Souvenir’, demonstrates the band from the outset: fuzzy riffs, dynamic and wearing-shades-in-a-nightclub cool. It’s the job of an album opener, right? ’98’ sparkles with life during its two-step chorus, whilst the jangly hammer-on riff of “This Thing Called Love” funks so hard you cannot help but bob your head along.
While ‘Ultraviolence’ rounds things off in acoustic-led balladry, the rock ‘n’ roll peak comes during the bridge of ‘Samson’ – lead guitar wailing atop a mounting wall of noise that breaks out into the song’s chorus once more.
Whether by accident or by design, The Heat Inc.’s ‘Asleep In The Ejector Seat’ is deliciously raw and honest: here are four musicians getting together and making music. No trickery; just pure rock ‘n’ roll. It is refreshing to hear this in such a digital age, and may they continue with this for a long time. Do not sleep on this.
