Review: Ani Glass – Phantasmagoria

Phantasmagoria

Self Released

Using three distinct languages, Cymraeg (Welsh), Kernewek (Cornish) and English within one body of work is a brave move by any standard. Here they give this ethereally majestic album a unique flavour that conjures up peaceful, romantic bygone scenes within your mind’s eye. Those familiar with and who remain fans of Enya will love Ani Glass purely for her delicately nuanced vocals. The music though, that is bang up to date with hints of synth pop mixed in with subtle beats and orchestral instruments. Every note is there for a reason and every arrangement carefully thought through. ‘Phantasmagoria’ is introspective lyrically and musically. You could imagine it being performed in a Welsh forest, or on a Cornish coastal cliff top. It is that enchanting. If you want to just close your eyes and be taken away to somewhere magical then this is the album for you.
