The electronic/breakbeat duo 601 are back with a brand new single and news of a new LP ‘We Are Not The Same’ dropping on November 7th via SeeHear Recordings.
The lead single ‘Inkblood’ featuring Adam Sedgwick (Tribe Of Ghosts) is out today and streaming everywhere. It also comes alongside the brand-new video and VIP Breakbeat Mix B-side (also available on DSPs).
One half of 601, George Miller, gives us a run down on the track’s themes…
“Musically the track was inspired by a discussion I had with the middle eastern infused metal band, Lowen, about the world rhythms on their latest album. It reminded me that I always wanted to experiment with Soca rhythms.
I had known Adam (Tribe Of Ghosts) for a while, and he seemed like a good collaborator for something as different as a Soca metal dance track.
Adam told me that the lyrics are taking the idea of bleeding for your art. He uses the metaphor of a writer that only has his own blood to write with in order to satisfy his inherent compulsion to create. We thought that was pretty apt given the state of the music industry these days.”

601’s sound is rooted in the world of electronic music, but their creativeness weaves further afield into the rock and metal scenes, giving their music and overall aesthetics an alternative leaning. Heavy and electronic music are no strangers to one another, and 601sees the dark and extreme DNA that is present in both. Being fans of a wide range of music, they take great pleasure in marrying the two worlds together and creating something as broad as their individual tastes.
601 was founded in 1993 by Nat Slater and George Miller. With over three decades in the game, the duo have released three LPs and countless EPs/singles, which has earned them great critical acclaim and an international following in the realms of experimental and electronic music.
They have worked with the top labels in breakbeat and bass music, which has helped them hit career milestones with singles of the month in DJ Mag, worldwide DJ performances, Radio 1 and Kiss 100 sessions and top billing dance stage performances at Glastonbury, Glade and Beat Herder festivals.
In 2019, 601 took a much-needed break. Requests to perform live and for new music were still coming in, but they had an itch to push the boundaries of their creative output further. Both Nat and George have always had a love for so many different styles of music outside the breakbeat genre they’d become most known for, so after three years of silence, the two united with the steadfast mission of making the album they’ve always wanted to hear. Thus began the creation of their fourth LP ‘We Are Not The Same’.
Through George’s connections in metal journalism, 601 were able to collaborate with some of the most exciting new artists that the burgeoning UK alternative scene has to offer. Arian Malekpour, Jake Harding, Adam Sedgwick (Tribe Of Ghosts) and fakeyourdeath are just some of the names featured on ‘We Are Not The Same’.
By collaborating with these artists, 601 have created a record that aims to unite dancefloors and moshpits. The duo have taken influence from other genre defiers such as Enter Shikari, Pendulum and Modestep, but have decided to take a more subtle approach to how they blend the worlds of rock and electronic, creating a sound that is uniquely and wholly their own.
For the release of ‘We Are Not The Same’ 601 have teamed up with SeeHear Recordings to help bring it to the masses. SeeHear is an independent label, open to supporting new creative styles of music, and with no interest in pushing artists in a commercial direction. For this reason alone, SeeHear were the obvious partners to help breathe life into the project.
Scheduled for release on the 7th of November, 601 are ready to let the new album speak for itself…’We Are Not The Same’.
