Supersonic Festival is getting ready to open its doors next week from the 29th-31st August – and as final preparations are underway we round up what’s in store.

Supersonic has long championed artists pushing the boundaries of heavy music. It’s a festival that challenges outdated ideas about what heavy music is and who it’s for, by offering a platform to those that redefine heaviness on their own terms. Here, “heavy” isn’t just about volume and distortion; it’s emotional depth, political defiance, and atmosphere that resonates long after the sound fades.

This year, Supersonic are proud to host three UK exclusive performances that embody this vision. Sweden’s Maria W Horn & Sara Parkman channel ritualistic “funeral folk” that mourns and resists with haunting intensity. Norwegian feminist black metal trio Witch Club Satan bring pure fury and power in their visceral call to arms. And Backxwash will deliver a blistering fusion of industrial rap and metal that explores queer identity, trauma, and resilience.

This is what heavy sounds like now. But heaviness isn’t the whole story. Supersonic is also a space to let go and celebrate.

New additions to the lineup include; Smote x One Leg One Eye (Lankum), Palestinian Sound ArchiveKarl D’Silva, Jude Rees, and Pocket Signs (featuring members of Sly & the Family Drone and UKAEA). These new additions sit alongside a wealth of other unmissable sets—including the return of Rich(ard) Dawson, performing music from his new album End of the Middle with drummer Andrew Cheetham, and the genre-blurring brilliance of Moin, featuring Valentina Magaletti, Tom Halstead, and Joe Andrews of Raime. Electrifying sets abound from aya and Aunty Rayzor, who bring fierce energy to the dancefloor and invite us to move with joy and abandon. There will be sets from home-town Black Country duo Big Special, Poor Creature (featuring members of Lankum, Landless and The Jimmy Cake), and The Bug Feat Warrior Queen will make their earth-shaking return, a full circle moment as they played the first ever edition of the festival.

Supersonic Festival has this year collaborated with NeoAncients, in association with Weird Walk, for a celebration of folklore, radical histories, and sonic ritual.

A vibrant hub of independent culture, the Market Place is home to record labels, zine-makers, illustrators, DIY designers, and pedlars of all manner of curiosities. From rare vinyl to handmade goods, anarchist prints to folklore-inspired art, visitors can explore an eclectic mix of stalls, alongside band and festival merchandise from this year’s stellar lineup.

This year’s workshop programme invites festival-goers to get hands-on, make noise, and connect through creativity. From radical printmaking of Black Lodge Press to an inclusive folk singing workshop with Debbie Armour (Burd Ellen) and a chance to re-calibrate with a transformative Sound Bath by AHRKH (GNOD), plus more extra curricular offerings.
