IO
Out Of Line
There was a time when deathcore was viewed as something decidedly uncool, with many artists violently distancing themselves from the genre. But for a whole army of disaffected youth, the fusion of death metal and hardcore creates a sound that perfectly encapsulates the horrors of modern life. French band ten56. are indicative of the new wave of deathcore, a quintet formed in 2020 they’ve been busy sharpening their songs into glistening blades, and it’s all come to fruition on their sophomore album IO. It immediately springs for the throat with ‘Doormat’ and rarely lets up over the course of a dozen diverse tracks. This album is far from one-dimensional and in addition to the crushing deathcore there’s the arresting skit ‘LIFEISACHORE.MOV’ and the hip hop found on closing (and title) track. It all conspires to make IO a spicy affair and ensures that things never become staid. It also means that it flows like an old school album, whilst their debut long player (2023’s Downer) was a sick succession of blasts, IO introduces hooks, singalongs and conventional song structures, making this an album which ebbs and flows perfectly, meaning these songs will sound stellar whether blasting in your bedroom or at a rowdy gig.
