Conjuring up mental flashbacks to gritty little 90s sweatpit thrash and death metal gigs are Cherrydead from Birmingham. That home town won’t be lost on most people either as ground zero of metal for many, thanks to Ozzy and co. So clearly there must be something in the water. This five track assault on the senses, particularly your ears, is a raw no compromise blast-o-rama. The band do sound a little like they are coming at you fresh from the grave. The vocals snarl, the rhythms are deep and the guitar punches hard. There’s a kind of organic earthy vibe too, much like some of the older classics – think Left Hand Path or Warmaster. The writing is forward thinking though with some nice touches adding texture. Cherrydead have debuted with an EP that puts them firmly on the heavy music map.
