Weekend Inferno (Split LP)

Engineer Records

Finding two bands for a split-release who complement each other is no easy science; get the mix wrong and an uneven, off-kilter listen will result. However, spread that ballast correctly and you’ll be reward with an explosive affair which fires on all cylinders, and that’s exactly what ‘Weekend Inferno’ does. Featuring two of Italy’s finest punk bands, this LP fizzes and sparkles with panache, but when things kick off with Weekend Cigarettes’ ‘Malice’, how could it not? Their six tracks deliver a rebel rousing brand of punk rock which sweeps the listener along in its slipstream, it’s arena-ready and made for the biggest stages and these songs could easily take them there. On the flip side are Verse, Chorus, Inferno, a punk rock “supergroup” who bring an obvious pedigree to their seven selections. They ensure energy levels remain high with hard, yet melodic, songs that are very pogo-inducing and the likes of ‘Summer Of ‘99’ will shoot to the top of your playlist. Punk songs don’t get much more vital and urgent than this, and ‘Weekend Inferno’ serves up a baker’s dozen to prove it.
