House Of Protection
Outrun You All
Red Bull Records
House Of Protection are a band I’ve been rooting for from the start, their first EP ‘Galore’ took everything I liked about the best of Fever 333 and mixed it with a bit of UK dance music savvy and punk rock grit and I loved it for it. Here on their second EP once again alongside Jordan Fish (ex BMTH) as producer they seem to still be working out their identity. ‘Something More Than This’ reminds me of Fontaines DC in its baggy vocal swagger, a trick that returns on ‘Slide Away’. ‘Fire’ straight up lifts THAT Prodigy beat template with ‘Afterlife’ bringing the 8 bit dubstep influence and ‘Godspeed’ sounding like something between a millennial Nu Metal track and a Bring Me The Horizon chorus and breakdown. There is a lot here that will ignite dancefloors and moshpits the world over but old fans of their previous work might miss the lo-fi punk rock edge. Maybe buoyed by the success of the first EP the pressure was on to make more on-brand modern hits, if being everything to everybody was the aim then I understand. On this evidence I think House Of Protection might need a bit more focus to sound more cohesive, but make no mistake this still kicks like a mule nonetheless.
