Review: Hearts Under Fire – Decade

Hearts Under Fire

Decade

Self released

Coming ten years after the release of their debut album the aptly titled ‘Decade’ continues the strong song writing and meaningful lyrics that made Hearts Under Fire so popular pre-hiatus. The most obvious thing you immediately notice is that the four piece have retained their trademark sound. It shows how far ahead of the game they were (and still are) that this powerful four track EP sounds so fresh and up to date. We get the stunning ballad ‘Athazagoraphobia’ which literally means the fear of being forgotten. It’s doubtful fans of the band will have forgotten just how good HUF were, and still are. Elsewhere the melodic punk roots shine through alongside Mary-Claire Sullivan’s powerful vocal delivery. This is cerebral rock music rather than angry and shouty. It has focus and clarity as its prime forces. It’s fantastic that HUF are back with new music after such a long time, and it has to be said they sound better than ever.
