Here To Destroy

Venn Records

Hailing from Bristol punk rock n’ rollers Split Dog are set to release their second album ‘Here To Destroy’. Nine blistering tracks, four of which have been released previously but five so far are still to be unleashed to the masses. Well known for their unabashed, earsplitting live performances we were keen to see how that translates onto their latest record. Eager to make their sound have that real ‘1970s rock n’ roll’ feel, the band recorded this album live over three days with vocalist Harry Atkins singing along in a vocal booth. On ‘Stay Tuned’ the first thoughts that come to mind was feeling as though you are listening to a crisp live show from the comfort of your own home. So they have indeed set out what they intended to achieve sound wise. ‘Animal’ is one of the many examples on the album where they deliver hooks which are so catchy. Atkins vocals are coarse and brash however easy to understand with vocal stylings are gripping and unique.‘Be A Sport’ is one of the many tracks with colourful lyrics which are captivating and entertaining. ‘Meg’ is fast paced, one of the shorter tracks on the album. Here the instruments really stand out. The guitars and drums have their time to shine. The raw rock n roll energy really oozes from those guitars. ‘All In’ is one of the more melodic tracks but not lacking in the attitude which gives this record so much character. Split Dogs are playing their first UK headline tour with some Summer festivals sprinkled in this year so be sure to keep an eye out for them playing near you!
