Review: The Breathing Method – After Everything Else

The Breathing Method

After Everything Else

Self-Released

If proof were ever needed that hard times require hard responses, you need look no further than The Breathing Method. Hailing from the craggy coast of Western Scotland, this quintet have a sound that’s equally harsh and unforgiving. After Everything Else is the band’s debut album and opening shot ‘Hope For A Better Day’ succinctly sets out their stall. With chuggy riffs, a hard-hitting rhythm section and emotive vocals, the band soon push all the needles into the red and attack the senses like a wrathful hydra. However, the band are wise enough to temper their shade with light; they’re not all pure bludgeon and the lither moments act as a foil to ensure that when the band kick in, they kick in hard. But mainly they deal in the dark stuff; lyrically these eleven songs detail the struggles of everyday life, be they anxiety, depression or even the daily drudge and when coupled with an oppressive sound, you have an explosive mix. However, After Everything Else is filled with hope and aspiration, a desire to find strength in adversity, and with this album on your playlist, you’ll be able to blast through whatever tribulations life throws in your way.
