Review: Gaerea – Coma

Gaerea

Coma

Season Of Mist

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to experience Gaerea live at Fortress Festival and what we witnessed was a jaw dropping physical, twisting performance that delighted the majority and upset a few purists. This album cements that statement of intent from the off with the extended brooding introduction of The Poets Ballet, it makes you work for the pay off but when it arrives, hold onto your bullet belts! Hope Shatters explodes with grandiose flourishes and razor sharp riffing whilst lead single World Ablaze does indeed sound like the earth collapsing in on itself. Kvlt grumblers be gone! This is no sell out, this has nothing to do with any masked band hype, this is a relentless tour de force that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. Title track Coma intros on a stabbing blasts that beat the listener into submission whilst Unknown and epic ender Kingdom Of Thorns prowl amongst the ashes of the naysayers. Gaerea are one of the best of the newer breed of black metal acolytes and we’re expecting main stage billing in the very near future.
