Forever We Burn

Candlelight / Spinefarm

Coined as showing love for all things gothic and grand, curiosity about this record was immediately piqued. The fact that this new project was the dark creation of Northern doom virtuoso Aaron Stainthorpe of pioneers My Dying Bride, along with a bassist/vocalist/songwriter known as Tombs, was enough to delve into and discover the enchanting delights of Forever We Burn.

This is a significant record, and Aaron’s vocals have a newfound freedom. They seemingly portray a beautiful conflict, switching between man and beast simultaneously. Throughout the collection of ten tracks, each morsel delivers a delectable, unique offering to the listener.

With enchanting melodies, expressive gothic metal rock, explosive drums, and an expertly driven rhythm section, this album seductively shrouds you. It featured and was produced by Gregor Mackintosh (Paradise Lost), adding further weight to its glorious overall sound.

While echoes of Paradise Lost, Type O Negative, 69 Eyes, and HIM can be discerned, it’s crucial to understand that ‘Forever We Burn’ is a one-of-a-kind creation. It skillfully fuses these influences with its own artistic sovereignty, birthing a fresh and enthralling sound and ushering in the birth of ‘Death Pop’.

‘My Syndrome’ is a standout track, carried by raspy vocals and a baleful poetic feel. It’s a testament to the album’s ability to find beauty in the macabre, making even the word ‘honeycomb’ sound sinister. The single ‘Wasn’t Human’ is an emotive gothic metal song drenched in melancholy, a piece that would not be out of place as a Goth dancefloor anthem. ‘Widowmaker’ presents a more accessible classic guitar-driven track that exudes the holy trinity of tragedy, desperation, and death.

Forever We Burn is an important and defining collection of work that will be intrinsically linked to the forthcoming autumnal vibes. It is perfect timing for a perfect debut.
