L J Pheonix
Tokyo Cry – Self Released
If synthy soundscapes are your thing then you’d do well to checkout this latest release from L J Pheonix. This is chilled out music with a heavy dose of retro in the mix. The give away being the DeLorean sat on the cover artwork. Critically the balance between music and vocals is judged to perfection. Neither overpowers the other and with some slick intros setting the scene for each song you get eased in gently. While the whole package flows nicely its final track ‘Neon Love’ that’s the real earworm with its punchy beat and mid-tempo warmth. Decades ago Jean-Michelle Jarre changed how we viewed and listened to electronica. ‘Tokyo Cry’ is a direct descendent, a progressive keyboard great grandchild if you like. Just with added vox. All credit to L J Pheonix for producing something truly unique.
