Florence Black
Bed Of Nails – Self-Released
Slick hard rockers making more noise than should be physically possible by three men,
Florence Black are long of hair and heavy of riff. Brutal of beat, strong of tunes and second
of album (alright we’ll stop now), these boys from the South Wales valleys will blow you
away with their solid songs which have got something for everyone. The touching ‘Beautiful
Lover’, snarling, darker metal monster title track ‘Bed Of Nails’ and fast moving shout-along
banger ‘Taxman’ (which is almost as good as getting a sizeable rebate from HMRC
themselves) give the album more welly than a pair of Hunter boots. These boys know what
they’re about. This is good old fashioned rock and roll which is edgy enough for today’s
audience while appealing to yer Iron Maiden loving dad as well. ‘This sounds alright. What is
it? Florence Black? Never heard of her.’ Possibly. Vulnerable ‘Back To The End’ and electric
(in every sense of the word) folk ‘The Forest’ give ‘Bed Of Nails’ another dimension.
Florence Black have a winning formula that will see them way past this record and through
many future releases.
