Lil Lotus
Nosebleeder – Epitaph Records
Okies, so let’s just crib off the press release for a second… ‘For Lil Lotus, life has largely felt like one giant nosebleed – being drained by the people around him, solitude and his internal demons.’ Stay with is here. Song themes? Addiction. Medication. Toxic friendship. Complex relationships. Question: How do you expect ‘Nosebleeder’ to sound? A face-melting screamathon that’s louder and angrier than Cannibal Corpse in a really bad mood. Nope. All things considered, ‘Nosebleeder’ is a jolly little jaunt through pop punk and emo with upbeat, erm, beats, spikey riffs and lyrics you can actually hear, sing along with and maybe even relate to. Lil Lotus hasn’t had the easiest time of it, and ‘Nosebleeder’ is a deep dive into his story so far. It’s brave and open, and ridiculously upbeat and catchy despite the subject matter. Verdict? Devo will be listening to this record long after this review has been posted.
