Camden Town, renowned as a haven for the unconventional, proved to be the perfect setting for an evening of true crime music at the infamous Koko. SKYND, undertaking her most extensive headline tour to date with the support of Zetra, successfully filled the iconic venue. Fortunately, we were in attendance to witness the events unfolding within its historic walls and here is a recap of the night!
Kicking off the proceedings was the enigmatic Zetra, an eccentric duo wielding a potent synth to craft their mysterious sound. With no spoken words, their music added an extra layer of intrigue to the atmosphere. The audience embraced Zetra’s avant-garde style, gradually loosening up and moving to the unique musical experience. Zetra, with their distinctive and acquired taste, brought something fresh and exciting to the SKYND family.
As darkness enveloped the Koko music venue, the notorious SKYND graced the stage. The impactful combination of ‘Richard Ramirez’ and ‘Elisa Lam’ set the tone for the night. Fans sang and danced to the sinister melodies, fostering a sense of togetherness in the room. ‘Michelle Carter’ heightened the eerie undertones of the evening.
True crime as a musical theme is undeniably unique, but SKYND’s use of distorted vocals and powerful cleans created a trance-like state among fans, immersing them in the captivating performance. The recent single ‘Bianca Devins’ was exceptionally well-received, while tracks like ‘Jim Jones’ and ‘John Wayne Gacy’ added an exciting flair to the overall experience.
The set took an upbeat turn with ‘Columbine,’ its infectious chorus echoing throughout the Koko as the crowd joined in. ‘Edmund Kemper’ showcased SKYND’s impressive vocal range, and ‘Tyler Hadley’ injected a late-night attitude, with fans dancing energetically to the catchy lyrics. Unfortunately, the twisted party had to conclude, and the haunting sounds of ‘Gary Heidnik’ closed out the night’s performance.
SKYND stands out in the alternative music space, offering a rare and thrilling experience. Already an expert in her mysterious aesthetic and sound, SKYND has the ability to draw a substantial crowd. Her music’s prolific nature is bound to attract more attention, and her live performances, though simple, are massively effective at creating the atmospheric experience she seeks.
