Review: We Are Sovereign – Step Out Your Comfort Zone

Step Out Your Comfort Zone – Independent

Hailing from the stronghold of metal, We Are Sovereign are an East Midlands quartet who
specialise in a twin vocal attack that blends the gruff and clean to great effect and in doing so have produced a debut album that’s at once heavy and emotive. Simultaneously attacking the heart and the head, this band draw deep from the well of inner turmoil, and it only adds to the overarching feeling of heaviness. As hinted at by their recent singles, We Are Sovereign aren’t in the business of delivering a paint-by-numbers brand of metalcore, and Step Out Your Comfort Zone does exactly what it says on the tin and sets its sights firmly on the future. Incorporating elements of rap, synthwave and pop, this album takes those disparate elements and melds them to some of the heaviest songs known to man, and the result makes for an intense (but
rather nice) experience. This album is a raging tempest that rains pure emotion, but there are
moments of calm within the storm to add contrast, while some choice samples set the scene
perfectly. As We Are Sovereign’s debut album proves, great things happen when you…Step Out Your Comfort Zone.
