Review: Spyder Byte – The Taste Of Filth

The Taste Of Filth (EP) – Independent
For a guy growing up under the slate grey skies of ‘80s Britain, American sleaze metal seemed so glamorous. It provided a wormhole to a brighter world populated by pretty girls (and prettier boys) who lived a life of decadent debauchery; but then came grunge to pop my bubble like the ultimate party-pooper. However, time passes and a new generation have discovered the unadulterated delights of glam metal, and it’s into that aesthetic that Spyder Byte sink their teeth. Since crawling out the South of England over a decade ago, they’ve coloured our world with some of the biggest carefree anthems, and their latest EP The Taste Of Filth carries on in that tradition. With plenty of vim and vigour, ‘Front Of The Pack’ kicks things off in raucous fashion and the band rarely look back over the course of 15 fun-fuelled minutes. Full of frisky drum fills, soaring solos, and delivered by a raspy, 20-Marlboro-a-day vocalist, these are the ultimate in life-affirming songs, and if you want to know why good music never goes out of style, then you’ll find the answer in these four tracks. Filth has never tasted so good.
