Review: Neo Cryptid – Animator

Neo Cryptid

Animator EP – Self Released

Mixing metal with electronica isn’t a new thing. Heavy music and dance beats go together well. But to be able to do it with an original spin can be a tough task these days. Step forward Neo Cryptid, a one person project, who has understood the conundrum and done a fine job. There’s some stella precision in here, a frame that sits strong allowing all the mayhem to drip off of it. Vocals rasp, the beats are rapid, and the synth is high tech.  And yet there’s warmth here too, there’s an embrace from the music. Opener ‘Studio Problems’ is a bit of a crazy intro, after which we get something akin to early Fear Factory meets an 80s styled Combichrist. ‘Animator’ is a fresh approach which should find favour in alternative clubs thanks to its punchy rhythms. Where Neo Cryptid goes next should be very interesting indeed.
