Shades Of Sorrow – Napalm Records

If music is a pointer to how a nation feels then Brazil must be raging right now. Crypta are relentless on this technically precise second album. It’s a barrage that shows off just how unified the quartet are too. It’s all in the detail, the way the vocals ying and yang, the superior guitar licks and the sheer perfection achieved at high tempo from the rhythm section. There are an awful lot of death metal bands out there right now, all putting out vast amounts of records. Shades Of Sorrow is simply one of the best of them. A giant oak in a forest of saplings it shows an intelligence of writing that gives it depth and real substance. The quiet passages make sense rather than being placed gratuitously. At full blast there is discipline and order. It’s an assault on the senses but the arrangements take from a wide spectrum of music. You kind of know these are four women who appreciate melody first and foremost, they care and are receptive. Then they channel it into wrath. Crypta have just released a game changer.
