Warriors – BMG

Some music immediately grabs you by the private parts then gives a good yank, and that’s certainly the case with the title (and opening) track from Monster Truck’s new album. It’s an affirmative statement of intent, and one which sets the tone for the rest of the record. With a riff to die for that’s coupled with some insanely catchy gang vocals, Warriors gets off to a raucous start and rarely looks back over 32 rumbustious minutes. Despite hailing from Canada, Monster Truck have the whole Southern rock vibe down to a T, and ‘Golden Woman’ (with tongue-in-cheek, politically incorrect lyrics) rocks like a rampaging grizzly that’s intoxicated on honey. With that classic ZZ Top swagger, latest single ‘Get My Things & Go’ is a delectable piece of rock candy that, like the Tops’ ‘Tush’, will rattle ‘round your cranium long after the disc (and your head) has stopped spinning. In our current age of tribulation there’s something refreshingly carefree about Monster Truck’s sound, and the good vibes they radiate make them the perfect tonic for these troubled times.
