Movement
Transformation – Distort The Scene
It’s been a fair while since anything that captures the spirit and mood of acts such as Danzig or Bauhaus has graced the new release lists. Movement may just have stopped the rot with their new album Transformation. While it won’t have you pulling on your dancing shoes it will enthral thanks to its consistently thoughtful lyrics and dark vibe. While it’s a bit of a slow burner this album gets inside your head forcing you to hit replay in the same way a film noir movie needs watching more than once. When you’re soaking up all that atmosphere you find little additional nuggets you missed first time around, and so you play it again. It’s not all retro though. The subject matter is bang up to date leading with opener ‘Propaganda’ and it’s obvious topic. Elsewhere you have to delve a little deeper. The production is nicely handled and smooth, you can imagine these songs sounding great on vinyl with its warmth. Transformation is a record that lurks in the shadows and embraces you. Give it a hug back and a listen, you won’t be disappointed.
