Sydney Sherwood
Headspace EP – Self Released
What were you doing (or, indeed, do you plan to do) aged 18? Devo can’t remember that far back anymore, but cider, study and sleep would probably have been pretty high up on the agenda. New Jersey singer/songwriter Sydney Sherwood is only 18, but she has already lived a lifetime. She began playing guitar and singing to help her cope when her brother was diagnosed with cancer, and is a dedicated childhood cancer advocate. Lead single from ‘Headspace’ – ‘Creep’ – is inspired by Sydney’s anxiety, and the paradox that a mind which can elevate its owner to see and feel such glorious highs, is also capable of causing them descent into the most crushing lows. ‘Headspace’ is a stylish EP of six sumptuous alt rock songs. Sydney’s sound is fresh and forward. Her vocals are dreamy and devastatingly powerful at the same time. Sydney Sherwood’s star is a bright one that will only rise.
