Review: The Bar Stool Preachers – Party Eternal

The Bar Stool Preachers

Party Eternal

Self released

You get the sense that music is not so much transitioning as hurtling towards seismic upheaval. There’s a changing of the guard happening which is leaving the door open more than ever for acts that have built strong foundations to step up. So now is the time to put out a statement record which is exactly what The Bar Stool Preachers have done with ‘Party Eternal’. They’ve cultivated a cheeky chappie image that underscores rather than is at odds with the social and personal observations contained in their lyrics. They like football, beer and banter but also aren’t frightened to speak up about current issues and injustices. Put simply they sound like the sort of mates that would look out for you as well as caring deeply about the wider world. Musically the pop punk origins have been expanded out of all recognition with song writing that is innovative while remaining infectious. It’s a very impressive maturing in every department. This in all ways is an album that really does party eternal in how fun it is to listen to, but it also gets its message firmly across. In fact it’s so good it deserves to be the Brighton band’s big breakout moment. It’s their best work to date by far and could propel them well beyond the current alternative scene.
