Mason
Edge of Destruction
Eonian Records
That big, nostalgic, anthemic sound of past decades is not only right here in Mason’s third album – it’s also one you’re gonna want to listen to again and again. Cos it’s thoroughly addictive. An AOR soundtrack to your day-to-day, or a sit-and-listen to take it all in, ‘Edge of Destruction’ is a total package of an album that is bursting with power, purpose, desire and ambition. With an 80s tinge, ‘This Thing Called Love’ is catchier than the inevitable winter colds coming our way. ‘Heart in Vane’ is stuffed with dreamy guitars and soft singalong vocals. The saxophone and synths on ‘Stranger in Bloom’? Big ballad heaven. We listen to a LOT of aggressive stuff over here at Devo. And ‘Edge of Destruction’ aint it. Nope. This album is Mason pushing the boundaries of previous releases and peaking with this one. ‘Edge of Destruction’ was designed to expand the band’s sound and exceed their (personal and fan) expectations. And dear God it’s delivered.
